Flow, Pull, and Future State Value Stream Map (VSM)

Continuous Flow can be the most effective way to produce products and services for customers.  Where flow is introduced, lead times, inventories, and queues are reduced significantly, with corresponding improvements in cost and quality.

While striving for Continuous Flow, an organization must use countermeasures in the form of Pull Systems where continuous flow cannot be achieved.  Pull Systems are a way to control the movement of material and information between processes in order to meet customer demand.  A Pull System strives to produce what is requested in the amount requested in the shortest amount of time.

Participants will learn key steps of moving from a Current State Value Stream to a Future State by applying Flow and Pull methods.  The Future State Value Stream Map will be developed as the following topics are taught:

  • Creating Continuous Flow
  • Identifying Loops
  • Designing the Workplace/Cells
  • Implementing Pulls Systems
  • Supermarket Inventory
  • Kanban Types and Application
  • Identifying the Pacemaker
  • Heijunka & Product Wheel Scheduling
