Stability/Capability I:  Standard Work, 5S, Visual Management, & Error Proofing

Foundational to any Lean journey is the ability of an organization to run stable processes and eliminate chaos.  Through the application of Standard Work, 5S, Visual Management, and Error Proofing an organization creates the fundamental discipline from which to engage the workforce and enable the application other Lean concepts.

Initially, the participant will learn the role of Standard Work in enabling improvement activities.  The module will focus on thorough application and how to identify and document work content, timing, sequence, and outcome.  Additionally, the creation of Standard Work Packages will be taught and participants will be shown how to use Standard Work as a means of process improvement.

The ability of an organization to keep the workplace neat clean and organized can be improved through the application of 5S.  Participants will learn the benefit and application of Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.  Additionally, approaches to 5S implementation and assessment will be taught.

Visual Management is the ability to understand the status or performance of a workplace immediately by simple observation.  Participants will learn the benefits of Visual Management, how to create a visual workplace, and its role in communicating with the organization.

Preventing the occurrence of errors and their propagation can reduce chaos and complexity in any organization.  The application of Error Proofing techniques will be taught to limit defects through simple and practical means.
